The Neuroscience of Creativity
We have an epic conversation from our Collective Insights vault for you today.
Five years ago Scott Barry Kaufman, Ph.D, humanistic psychologist, cognitive scientist, and educational philosopher joined our co-founder, Daniel Schmachtenberger, to overturn conventional and overly simplistic notions surrounding the neuroscience of creativity. They sought out to redefine both creativity and intelligence, rewriting what is considered “normal” in society.
It was such a powerful conversation that we’re bringing it to light once again in this special encore release. Daniel and Scott discuss:
- Scott’s story: from learning disability to Yale graduate
- How auditory processing disorders often mask gifts of intelligence
- Why creativity is an emergent property
- The need to redefine intelligence and creativity
- What mental health looks like in an insane society
- Tips to increase creative expression
Creativity is an emergent property. - Scott Barry Kaufman, Ph.D
The conversation tackles creativity dichotomies, our current educational system, and the way we define creativity and intelligence as a whole. Buckle up, it’s a good one.
PS: For those of you interested in Scott’s work (and you should be… he was named one of "50 Groundbreaking Scientists Who Are Changing the Way We See the World" by Business Insider), he’s written a new book since the original conversation was recorded. In addition to Wired to Create please check out Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization. It’s a favorite team read.
