70% Of Us Struggle With Poor Sleep.

That’s according to recent surveys tracking Americans’ sleep quality. A combination of factors, from digital devices late at night, to less lifestyle relationship with sunlight, to the chaotic stressors of our modern world, all play a role.

Poor sleep contributes to weaker immune function, weight gain, poor cardiovascular health, and accelerated aging, among countless other health detriments. But recapturing great sleep naturally requires nuanced nutrition that supports the totality of sleep health, from healthy circadian rhythms, to homeostatic sleep drive, and the body’s own melatonin production. These factors (and many others) informed the research behind Qualia Night.

The Science (And Art) Of Natural Sleep Support

Sleep products that are reliant on sedatives and melatonin can often disrupt natural sleep architecture, leading to dependency, and diminishing the body’s ability to regulate its own sleep cycle. A healthier approach supports the body’s intrinsic circadian rhythms and homeostatic sleep drive. Qualia Night blends 25 ingredients, including compounds that regulate sleep neurotransmitters (GABA), neurohormones (melatonin), and sleep drivers (adenosine, uridine). Polyphenol-rich extracts from olive, blueberry, grape, sesame, and saffron help support mitochondrial function. It also includes adaptogens to promote relaxation and stress resilience, while other ingredients enhance stem cell activity and antioxidant defenses during sleep’s restorative phase. We also factored in:

Ancient Wisdom

Ingredients in Qualia Night such as saffron have been used in Asian medicine traditions for centuries to support sleep, and parts of the hawthorne plant such as the extract in Qualia Night, have long been used in European herbal traditions to induce calm and manage stress.

Impeccable Ingredient Sourcing

All ingredients in Qualia Night are vegan, non-GMO, and gluten free. But additionally, many ingredients in Qualia Night are trademarked as standardized and concentrated forms - to ensure maximal potency and benefit.

Relationships Between Ingredients

Our science team pioneered the use of complex systems science in supplement formulations, which values the sum total effect of different ingredients in combination with each other, including deep study of their ideal dosage relationships, to achieve the greatest health benefits.

Polygala tenuifolia Root Extract: An herb used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine with preclinical research suggesting it supports brain protection and repair processes including molecules such as BDNF and NGF, counters chronic stress, supports sleep, and influences both adenosine signaling—a molecule involved in the sleep homeostatic drive—and GABA signaling—a neurotransmitter involved with relaxation at night and sleep

Uridine Monophosphate: A nootropic compound that is a building block of the main information carrying molecules in the body (DNA and RNA), and plays a central role in cellular metabolism. It’s a natural sleep-promoting substance made by the brain, acting via uridine receptors in the areas of the brain which regulate natural sleep.

Astapure® Whole Algae Powder is a branded Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae extract standardized for astaxanthin content. There is a growing body of research on astaxanthin for cognitive function support, immune system support, skin health, vision and other areas of wellness and performance. Its chemical structure allows it to readily cross the blood-brain barrier.

Lycopene is one member in a class of natural pigments called carotenoids—carotenoids are fat-soluble yellow, orange, or red pigments. Lycopene is on the red end of the carotenoid pigment color continuum. Lycopene can’t be synthesized in the body, so must be obtained from the diet, in abundance in sources such as tomatoes. It supports healthy brain function, antioxidant defenses, the gut microbiota, and healthy aging.

Betaine is a compound originally found in sugar beets (Beta vulgaris), which is the source of its name. Betaine plays a central role in methylation and is involved in the synthesis of important neurotransmitters (dopamine and serotonin) and the neurohormone melatonin, making it an important contributor in the formula to support natural melatonin production.

L-theanine is a calming amino acid found in green and black tea leaves shown to support sleep, stress resilience, cognitive function, relaxed mood, and general immune health.

L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid. Many recognize it as the compound in turkey known for inducing sleepiness, but L-tryptophan is also found in abundance in many plants. Ours is vegan sourced, and L-Tryptophan is a precursor used by the body to make melatonin, as well as NAD+ and serotonin, supporting sleep and calm mood among many other health benefits.

Magnesium glycinate is a chelated form of the mineral magnesium, renowned for its sleep supporting benefits, including healthy EEG and neuroendocrine responses during sleep. It also supports mood and cellular health, but has far-ranging benefits beyond just sleep and sleep recovery, including support for musculoskeletal health and cardiovascular function.

Gamma-oryzanol (γ-oryzanol) is a mixture of lipid molecules called steryl ferulates, found in food sources such as rice bran. It supports neuroprotective functions, and also supports healthy behavioral and physiological responses to stress and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep.

Quercetin is a yellow plant pigment. Its name is derived from the Latin word for oak forest—quercetum—because it was originally identified in oaks. We source ours from the bud of of the Sophora japonica plant. Quercetin supports an extremely long list of cognitive functions including motor activity, serotonin and dopamine signaling, noradrenaline signaling, brain mitochondrial function, as well as muscle recovery and joint health.

Grapefruit Whole Fruit Extract derived from (Citrus × paradisi) is a hybrid citrus fruit. One grapefruit ancestor is pomelo and the other is sweet orange—the × in the botanical name indicates its hybrid origin. It is rich in antioxidants, and also contains a flavonoid called naringin that gives grapefruit its distinctive bitter taste and plays a key role to grapefruit’s health benefits. Ours is standardized to contain no less than 20% naringin, and supports GABA signaling, cardiovascular function, and various sleep processes.

Hawthorne Leaf & Flower Extract have a long history of use. The leaf and flowers of Hawthorn— Crataegus sp. such as C. monogyna and C. oxyacantha —was a heart tonic used as support for an aging heart in European herbal traditions. Other traditional uses include support for stress, nervousness, mental well-being and sleep. Modern research shows it supports cardiovascular health and calm mood.

Ziziphus Jujuba Seed Extract is native to many regions in South Asia. The fruits and seeds have been used in both Korean and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) where they are believed to alleviate stress and were used to calm the mind and spirit. Its ability to support sleep and calm mood has been reiterated in modern research, with a multitude of cognitive support benefits, including the support of BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and healthy stress response.

Sesame Seed Extract is one of the two best food sources of lignans. Lignans are a category of polyphenols, and like other polyphenols, are broadly described as antioxidants. While sesame seeds have about 16 different lignans, the one that has received the most research is sesamin. In animal studies, sesamin has been neuroprotective and supports molecules like BDNF, which is involved in nervous system repair and growth. It has also countered changes in behavior caused by stress.

Olivex® Olive Fruit Extract is an olive fruit extract made from French olives (Olea europea), with about 380 pounds of olives needed to make 1 pound of the extract. This concentration is needed to create an olive fruit extract standardized for olive polyphenols. It is triple standardized for (1) hydroxytyrosol ≥6%; (2) tyrosol ≥1%; and (3) total polyphenols as tyrosol equivalents ≥15%, and supports healthy aging, brain function, gut microbiota, and antioxidant defenses.

Schisandra Chinensis Fruit Extract is a type of berry and one of the 50 Fundamental Herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The primary active compounds in the berries are schisandra lignans. Schisandra Chinensis Fruit Extract supports sleep, endurance capacity, mood, stress resistance, and brain function.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate) is the active form of vitamin B6, which is part of the B complex—a group of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cellular metabolism and energy production. It supports energy metabolism, brain function, and general immune health.

FAQs

Qualia Night is a dietary supplement designed to support nightly relaxation, sound and refreshing sleep, and help you wake up feeling rested and ready for a new day. Qualia Night helps the brain perform all the tasks that go on while we sleep: rest, clean up, organize, recharge. By doing so, it contributes to next-day cognitive performance and long-term brain health. Qualia Night provides 25 carefully selected ingredients to support quality sleep and more productive daytimes, including L-theanine, magnesium, and Ashwagandha.*

Our general recommendation is to take 4 capsules of Qualia Night at dinner or several hours before bedtime. Qualia Night is non-sedating and designed to be taken earlier in the evening—it is not a before-bedtime sleep aid. Night is also designed to be taken 5 days on and 2 days off each week. It does not matter if the "off-cycle" days are consecutive or apart, so long as they happen each week.*

Qualia Night is designed to be taken several hours before bedtime, which is not the ideal time to take melatonin. Melatonin promotes sleep and its levels increase quickly after being taken orally, so it’s usually recommended to take it shortly before going to bed so that the increase in melatonin produced by the supplement will be closer to the peak of melatonin secretion, which is in the middle of the night. If taken several hours before bedtime, melatonin would advance the time you’d naturally fall asleep and wake up. However, Qualia Night’s contains ingredients the brain can use to produce melatonin when it needs it.*

Qualia Night is designed to be taken 5 days on and 2 days off each week. That’s because our body has a natural tendency for habituation that can be prevented by taking Qualia Night intermittently, especially if you plan on taking it for long periods of time. It’s particularly advisable to have scheduled rest days for dietary supplements containing adaptogens such as Ashwagandha, Schisandra, and Holy Basil, which are found in Qualia Night.*

Qualia Night was designed to work over time and most users notice results within the first two weeks of taking it, namely feeling relaxed at night, having sound sleep, waking up feeling refreshed and energized, and having productive days. Some users even report noticing results within just a few days of taking Qualia Night. *†
