6 Impactful Benefits of Bioperine and Piperine Supplements

Chances are you have black pepper somewhere in your home. While this common cooking ingredient can certainly spice up a meal, it also contains something that can at times be beneficial to your health. That nutrient is called Piperine. More often it is referred to as Bioperine. For those confused over the differences of Piperine vs. Bioperine, just know that Bioperine is Piperine’s trademarked name, so the two terms are often interchangeable.

So what is Bioperine? It’s the active ingredient in black pepper that contributes to that unique spice you taste. Black pepper has long been regarded as beneficial to one’s health throughout history. Physicians even in ancient times would often recommend it to relieve stomach aches. Now with the help of modern science and clinical research, more Piperine benefits are being discovered. Here are just several of those benefits which may help you feel better.

Nutrient Absorption

Of the many Bioperine benefits offered, the one most talked about is its ability to increase the level of absorption of nutrients within your body. Sometimes referred to as “bioenhancement,” this ability means you get more out of other nutrients that you consume. With many nutrients, such as turmeric and curcumin, you only absorb a fraction of what you ingest. When combined with Piperine, however, you may assimilate much more of these nutrients. This may also apply to nutrients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, selenium, Vitamin B6, beta-carotene, and more.

Improved Metabolism

One way Bioperine increases nutrient absorption is by increasing your metabolism by improving thermogenesis. This process essentially breaks down your fat cells and increases your internal temperature. That means Bioperine may be used to help people regulate their weight. While the overall effect of this ability is slight, when combined with a more comprehensive weight loss plan, it may have a noticeable impact.

Raised Dopamine and Serotonin

It’s possible that Piperine may also help improve dopamine and serotonin levels. The nutrient works with closely with these chemicals, increasing their levels. This may have the ability to help individuals have more positive feelings, in part because they’re involved with rewarding people with these feelings.

Improved Memory

As mentioned above, Piperine may improve the neurotransmission of certain chemicals. Two such chemicals -- serotonin and beta-endorphin -- play an important role in memory. With an increased presence of these chemicals in their body, it’s possible that people could improve their memory overall, which is something many people are striving for as they grow older.

Improved Immune System

A malfunctioning immune system may sometimes overreact when the human body is attacked. Regulating this overly sensitive reactivity is necessary to keep the immune system under control. That’s where Bioperine comes in. A study in 2010 indicates that by slowing the reaction time of lymphocytes, Bioperine may reduce inflammation and weaken certain immune system responses.

Improve Mental Skills

In addition to helping your memory, Bioperine may also boost some of your other executive functions. That could mean improving your attention and reasoning skills, along with your overall motivation. In other words, Bioperine could possibly contribute to improving your overall production and sharpening your mental abilities. Those who are feeling mentally sluggish and lacking in motivation may feel a boost with an added amount of Bioperine. The nutrient may also play a factor in managing stress levels, allowing people to relax as they become more productive.

One of the great things about Piperine or Bioperine is how easy it is to get a hold of. Since Piperine is an extract from black pepper, all it really takes is a quick drive to the grocery store and the spice aisle to find what you need. For those who may not want to add black pepper to their meals, other options are available that are still easy to get. Some dietary supplements have capsules that contain Piperine among many other nutrients. When combined with a balance diet and regular exercise, people will know they’re doing what they can to treat their body well and live healthfully.

It is false to state that Bioperine® is equivalent to the active ingredient in black pepper known as Piperine and also to claim that it is the same as Piperine. Bioperine® is a manufactured and registered commercial product. Piperine is the active ingredient in black pepper (P. longum). Biopiperine® contains piperine, non medicinal ingredients as well as other ingredients. The two cannot be use interchangeably. Piperine is the natural ingredient in black pepper while Bioperine® is a commercially processed product.

Many thanks Tara.I know of the natural and active ingredient Piperine, but had not heared of the commercially processed product Bioperine.I grind my own Black pepper and add it to the fresh Turmeric Root that I also grate, when preparing many of my dishes..I also use both to make a hot drink...

No , the above is incorrect. Black pepper is commonly extracted to 50% piperine , 95% piperine and 98% piperine and others. Bioperine® is simply a 95% piperine specification that was patented by Sabinsa inc.

In other words , yes 95% piperine and Bioperine® can be used interchangeably.

....the point, James, is that Piperin is a natural product, while Bioperine is not, it's a pure chemical, since it's made in a factory.......hence they can not be used interchangeably.....by healthy conscious people, anyway.

What is the draw of this product when you can just put pepper in your food? I think people have gotten too far away from nature for too long. I am not interested in measuring everything I consume. With regular use and the right combinations, as Sylvia Meadows stated, using Turmeric with her pepper, you will get the benefits. Why must everything be manufactured?
